(06/03/2009) Border Patrol agents seized over 16,358 pounds of marijuana valued at $13,085,056. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 10 gang members. There were 7 rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and was previously removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 238 pounds of marijuana valued at $190,480, a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, and arrested a national of Mexico and a United States Citizen (USC) near Nogales, Arizona. Agents observed the subjects acting suspiciously and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The driver failed to yield and subsequently struck a guard rail. The driver and passenger were taken into custody and a search revealed five bundles of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 710 pounds of marijuana valued at $568,080, three rifles, and arrested three illegal aliens from Mexico near Arivaca, Arizona. Agents observed a large group of suspected narcotics smugglers carrying backpacks and three subjects with rifles in a canyon in the United States. Agents responded and subsequently arrested three subjects without incident. A search of the area revealed 15 bundles of marijuana, three long arms, and several rounds of ammunition.

Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued two USCs from a sinking boat in the Colorado River near Yuma, Arizona. Agents towed the boat to the riverbank, and the two occupants were taken to safety.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras and seized 130 pounds of marijuana valued at $104,160 near Eagle Pass, Texas. The subject was arrested after illegally entering the United States via the Rio Grande River. During the arrest, the subject actively resisted, and assaulted an agent.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,539 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,831,200, a 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A secondary inspection using a Backscatter X-Ray revealed numerous anomalies in the trailer and a subsequent search of the trailer resulted in the discovery of the narcotics commingled with a load of watermelons.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,336 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,066,800 and recovered a stolen 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche near Stanfield, Arizona. Agents observed a vehicle pass their location with its headlights off and attempted to investigate. The driver stopped the vehicle, and two individuals absconded. A search revealed the marijuana inside the vehicle.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,135 pounds of marijuana valued at $908,240, and recovered a 2006 Dodge pick-up and 2006 Nissan Pathfinder near Lochiel, Arizona. During two different incidents, agents were alerted to the vehicles and attempted to intercept them. Both vehicles were subsequently found abandoned. There were 37 bundles of marijuana inside the Dodge, and 17 bundles of marijuana inside the Nissan.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a Ford F- 250 pick-up and a Forrester trailer, and arrested a USC and 40 illegal aliens from Mexico near El Centro, California. State law enforcement officers conducted a vehicle stop and requested assistance from agents. When the agents responded, a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed 40 aliens inside.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,530 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,224,000, a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed several bundles of marijuana.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender with an extensive criminal history, and was previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Cotton City, New Mexico. At the time of arrest, the subject was in possession of stolen property. Records checks revealed he was an aggravated felon and had been previously removed from the United States. The subject was also identified as a member of the Azteca gang.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,463 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,170,400, a 2001 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection, and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the conveyance. A Backscatter X-Ray machine scanned the trailer and revealed 90 bundles of marijuana concealed in a load of plastic tableware.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Benson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a previous conviction for sexual assault in the State of Washington and was previously removed from the United States.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 21 grams of marijuana, recovered a loaded semi-automatic STAR 9mm handgun, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Whetstone, Arizona. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a search revealed the marijuana and handgun concealed in a bag behind the passenger’s seat. Records checks revealed the handgun was reported stolen.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a KAHR CW9 9mm handgun, a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a trace amount of cocaine near Tucson, Arizona. An agent attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on the Cherokee when the driver exited the moving vehicle and dropped a handgun before absconding. The vehicle subsequently struck a parked Kia Sportage. Agents were not able to locate the driver.

Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an ultra-light aircraft (ULA) and 276 pounds of marijuana valued at $220,480 near Yuma, Arizona. An agent observed a ULA illegally enter the United States and subsequently crash in a field. Agents deployed to the area and discovered one duffel bag of suspected marijuana strapped to the ULA and one duffel bag near the aircraft. Two suspects were arrested.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Eagle Pass, Texas. Record checks revealed the subject is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. The subject was previously deported after he was arrested with several other gang members in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,619 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,095,200, a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Guatemala and a national of El Salvador at the traffic checkpoint in Falfurrias, Texas. Both subjects presented themselves for inspection, and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the tractor-trailer. A Backscatter X-Ray scan of the conveyance revealed bundles concealed in the trailer. A subsequent search of the trailer revealed the marijuana commingled with a shipment of watermelons.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a lengthy criminal history and is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. The subject was also wanted for homicide and had a warrant for fleeing to avoid prosecution in the State of Nevada.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender and was previously removed from the United States. His previous criminal history included arrests for various sexual offenses including forcible touching and sexual abuse of a person under 14 years of age.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and seized 190 pounds of marijuana valued at $152,256 near Rodeo, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Los Paisas gang.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents received a report from two individuals who discovered a suspected pipe bomb near Queens Well, Arizona. Local law enforcement authorities were notified and responded to the scene. The device was identified as a pipe bomb and subsequently detonated by local law enforcement officials.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 541 pounds of marijuana valued at $432,560, a loaded stolen Phoenix Arms Raven .25 caliber handgun, and a 1997 Volvo tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Calexico, California. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed 45 packages of marijuana concealed in a false wall, and a search of the tractor revealed the handgun.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Imperial, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender in the State of Oregon and was previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Robstown, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member and was previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 1,537 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,230,000 and a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search of the trailer revealed the marijuana concealed in empty pallets.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,114 pounds of marijuana valued at $891,200 near Rio Rico, Arizona. An agent operating surveillance equipment observed several subjects carrying suspected narcotics. Border Patrol agents and CBP Air & Marine agents, who provided air support, deployed to the area and subsequently recovered 22 bundles of abandoned marijuana.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Arivaca, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an active member of the Sureno gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a conviction for third degree felony burglary and served two years imprisonment in the State of Utah. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.
