Speaker of the House and an establishment Republican in Virginia, Eric Cantor’s team lashed out at a rising star among conservatives.
TEAM CANTOR ATTACKS OPPOSITION BY LYING
On Thursday, January 9th, David “Dave” Brat, 18 year PhD Professor of Economics and Business at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, declared his candidacy to defeat Eric Cantor, VA 7th District (including Louisa) House of Representatives Congressman since 2001 (and House Majority Leader) in this year’s Election. Immediately that day the Cantor team issued an online attack on Dave Brat through an email blast from “Team Cantor”….
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your continued support of Congressman Eric Cantor. The election season is upon us once again and the liberals continue to take aim at our Congressman. We ask for your help and support as we work to keep Congressman Cantor’s conservative leadership representing us in Washington.
Today a liberal economics professor announced he will challenge Congressman Cantor in the Republican primary. Professor David Brat has kicked off his campaign pretending to be a conservative, but don’t be fooled. Professor Brat once served as then Governor Tim Kaine’s hand-picked economic advisor and is no friend of conservatives. We don’t need a protégé of Senator Tim Kaine representing us in Washington.
There is much to do as we ready for the upcoming campaign. If you have not already, please visit our website here where you can sign up to volunteer for our reelection effort.
Peter Greenwald, a local high school teacher from Chesterfield County, has announced he plans to run in our primary as well.
We know that we can count on you to stand with us once again as we work to keep our Congressman, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, representing us in the 7th Congressional District of Virginia.
Team Cantor
Accusing Brat of
1) being a Liberal, “pretending to be a conservative, but don’t be fooled”, and that
2) “Professor Brat once served as then Governor Tim Kaine’s hand-picked economic advisor and is no friend of conservatives.”, saying “We don’t need a protégé of Senator Tim Kaine representing us in Washington.”
WHAT A LAUGH ! That first accusation would better be leveled at Cantor. Dave is no Liberal, and is a strict adherent to the Republican Party of Virginia’s “Republican Creed” (which Cantor violates – starting with “That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government,”). As far as Brat being an Economic Advisor to Gov. Kaine – YES, he was, as he was to Gov. McDonnell, as one of 20 Economists chosen by the State to serve on the Joint Advisory Board of Economists, guiding the State on economic issues – which documents Brat’s expertise. He was also president of the Virginia Association of Economists. Would Cantor be willing to debate Brat on National Budget, Deficit, Debt or any other issue ? – DOUBTFUL, he is outclassed, and it is obvious that has him worried as our representative seeking re-election.
Notice I have NOT addressed Mr. Cantor as “Representative Cantor”, because I do not feel he properly represents us, in many ways.! First and foremost he does NOT give his constituency adequate access to him through non-partisan open Town Hall Meetings. His “Advisory Council” meetings are “puff sessions” at which he plies Republicans with wine and food, gives a stump speech and then takes maybe a half dozen questions openly at the podium – and then steps down to take remaining questions unamplified from the floor – not all can hear, why doesn’t he stay at the podium.? Space here does not allow me to address the many concerns I have about Mr. Cantor, but permit me one more.
Cantor sent two “Trackers” to attempt to video and audio record what went on during Brat’s two day open tour of his District, introducing himself. His 18 minute speech first thing Friday morning in Louisa is available at http://davebratforcongress.com/media/ Hope you’ll listen and agree with me that Dave Brat is the far better person to be OUR REPRESENTATIVE come next year. As the National Review published in an interview, Dave wishes to be Cantor’s “Term-Limit”.
