In fiscal year 2010, the U.S. Marshals apprehended more than 36,100 federal fugitives, clearing 39,100 felony warrants – more than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
Working with authorities at the federal, state, and local levels, U.S. Marshals-led fugitive task forces arrested more than 81,900 state and local fugitives, clearing 108,200 state and local felony warrants.
July 08, 2011 – 15 Most Wanted Addition – The U.S. Marshals have added a convicted child molester to their 15 Most Wanted fugitive list. Richard Carl Heeringa is wanted in Colorado by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals led Fugitive Location and Apprehension Group Task Force. Following a two-week trial in April 2010, a jury found Heeringa guilty of 17 counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and failure to register as a sex offender. He is facing more than 500 years in prison.
July 08, 2011 – Wanted fugitive William Neal was arrested this morning at approximately 11:30 am in Cleveland, Ohio. Neal was wanted by the Cleveland police Department on charges of two counts of felonious assault shooting and one count of aggravated robbery. Neal was the primary suspect in two different shootings that have recently taken place on Cleveland’s east side.
July 08, 2011 – Patrick George was arrested last night in Valdosta, Georgia by the U.S. Marshals in Albany with critical assistance from the Narcotics section of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. George was arrested pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statute 14:130, Obstruction of Justice. George is a suspect in the homicide investigation that was initiated after Cory Nicholas Sonnier was found murdered in Lake Martin on June 24, 2011.
July 07, 2011 – 15 Most Wanted Addition – The U.S. Marshals have added a suspected murderer to their 15 Most Wanted fugitive list. Beacher Ferrel Hackney is wanted in Hot Springs, Va., for the premeditated murders of two co-workers. Hackney, 61, was employed as a janitor at the Homestead Resort. Hackney, known to be a loner, was reportedly upset with two of his supervisors, Dwight Kerr and Ronnie Stinnett, for taking him off night shift and putting him on the busier dinner shift.
July 07, 2011 – U.S. Marshal Albert Najera, of the Eastern District of California, announced today that the U.S. Marshals Central Valley Joint Fugitive Task Force (CVJFTF) arrested Charles Hattabaugh and Darren Hamilton. On July 05, 2011, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Parole Agents, long time participants of the U.S. Marshals CVJFTF, assisted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Kern County Auto Theft Taskforce (KERN-CATT) in serving a search warrant at a location in Bakersfield, CA. The search warrant was the result of an auto theft investigation.
July 07, 2011 – Arthur Jeffrey Martinez, of Midland, was arrested last night by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force without incident in north Austin. Martinez was sought by Midland authorities after Martinez was identified as a shooter in a June 30th incident whereby Martinez was alleged to have discharged multiple rounds at a vehicle subsequent to a verbal altercation. Martinez discharged his weapon from within his vehicle towards the victim sending the vehicle out of control after the driver was hit.
July 05, 2011 – Major Adam Benoit was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force with critical assistance from the Louisiana State Police, Intelligence Division at a Lake Charles area Casino at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Benoit was arrested on a provisional arrest warrant seeking his extradition from the United States to Costa Rica. The warrant was signed in the Western District of Louisiana on charges stemming from a June 2, 2010, armed robbery that allegedly occurred in Heredia, Costa Rica.
